Life as a Dickinson Wright Lawyer

Our Environment

The professional and personal environment at Dickinson Wright provides lawyers with what we think is the optimal combination: a collegial, courteous and respectful place to work in a framework of unparalleled technical support and first class accommodations.

We know that "collegiality" is a term you hear thrown around a lot when you're thinking about a new law firm to join.

Here, it's not just talk. It's reality. And we didn't just make up the concept yesterday. It's our tradition. It matters to us. Our lawyers thrive not only on their professional endeavors with their colleagues, but equally on their personal relationships with each other.

Our actions speak louder than words: associates gather once a month for firm paid dinners at Detroit's best restaurants to share professional and personal experiences, trade war stories and poke fun at the partners; the partners meet every other month (OK, these are not nearly as much fun as the Associate Dinners which partners often try to crash); our practice groups meet monthly over lunch or breakfast; the epic annual firm dinner (all lawyers) takes place each November (for the last 125 years!); and there is no end to impromptu social functions of every kind imaginable. We like to work with each other and it shows.

Our People

We believe we're among the best because we hire smart, hardworking people who we know will share our commitment to being the best.

At Dickinson Wright, you'll work with highly qualified, highly motivated colleagues and you'll be expected to pull your oar. But as you do it, you'll find yourself right there next to senior partners as well as young associates. We work hard, as a team.

We're justifiably proud of the wide range of people who have chosen to establish their legal careers and build their practices at Dickinson Wright.

We pay attention to many things as we look for new lawyers - your academic achievements and credentials are important, of course. And if you're joining us laterally, we're particularly interested in your area of practice and business relationships. But, we're also interested in your personal background... in you as a lawyer and an individual. A quick review of our roster reveals lawyers from every walk of life, from all manner of socio-economic, geographic and ethnic backgrounds. Our Recruitment Committee is reflective of this diversity.

Women and people of color make up an extremely important portion of our partnership and overall firm makeup. We're especially proud of our leadership in the area of minority recruitment and advancement. We consider our firm to be among the leaders in the nation when it comes to hiring, retaining and advancing minority lawyers, and we intend to stay there.

Our Emphasis on Technology

The fact that we are excellent lawyers who enjoy working together in a team oriented approach wouldn't do us much good if we didn't have the wherewithal to provide our clients with the finest service. Dickinson Wright offers professional staff, facilities, equipment and software support that is second to none.

At the core of our legal environment is cutting edge technology. We're ahead of the curve and we plan to stay there. Each lawyer receives a state-of-the-art laptop computer with every application necessary to allow maximum productivity wherever you ight be and enough "RAM" to make it all work. From the most interactive multimedia to the most mundane word processing, you can do it all from your desk or from your airplane seat.

We don't expect that laptop to be just an expensive paperweight. We give our lawyers full training. Each office has its own on-site technology personnel and we have full "help desk" support for questions as they arise from anywhere in the world.

Our secretarial and professional staff personnel are exceptional and provide the finest support services, as you would expect from one of Michigan's leading firms.

Our Offices

We have offices in Detroit, Bloomfield Hills, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Ann Arbor and Washington, D.C. Please take a look at the office that might be of the most interest to you.
